Freedom From Glasses

A new outlook on life with the AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR® IOL.

Previously, the IOLsIntraocular lens (IOL): An artificial lens that is implanted in the eye during cataract surgery to replace the eye's clouded crystalline lens. used in cataract procedures provided good distance vision, but offered little benefit in the way of a full range of vision. This meant that people with IOL implants still needed reading glasses from time to time. Now, however, there is a new option: The AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR® IOL is designed to improve vision at all distancesnear Near vision: The range of vision that includes focal points 16 inches or closer to your eyes. Items that typically fall within this range include books, newspapers and medicine bottles. Also known as "reading vision.", farDistance vision: The range of vision that includes focal points 7 feet or further from your eyes. Items that typically fall within this range include billboards, street signs and movie screens. and everything in-betweenIntermediate vision: The range of vision that includes focal points between 16 inches and 7 feet away from your eyes. Items that typically fall within this range include computer screens and car dashboards..

Does this mean freedom from glasses? For many people, yes. With the AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR® IOL, many people can read, drive and perform most other tasks without the need for glasses. In fact, in clinical trials, after having the AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR® IOL implanted in both eyes, 76% of patients reported never wearing glasses. However, there can be a trade-off – while you may gain clear vision throughout your visual range, you can also experience halos Halos: A circular flare or hazy ring that may appear around a headlight or other light source. or glare. Most patients find these trade-offs tolerable, but you should still discuss it with your doctor.
